The need for mental health care far outpaces that number of care providers. The problem is made worse because there is a serious log jam of academically trained therapists who need clinical supervision to obtain licensure, but it’s difficult to get supervision. Enter Rachel McCrickard. Prompted by her own difficulties as a therapist in a rural area, Rachel created Motivo Health to help new therapists obtain licensure. Rachel created a technology-enabled tool that helps new therapists receive supervision without needing a supervisor to be physically present. Nine out of 10 tech start ups do not succeed, and often the problem is a company’s inability to scale up. Rachel, however, recognized that there is tremendous room for growth when it comes to health equity—not to mention diverse funding streams, from federal or state safety net dollars to philanthropic investments that protects her company from market volatility. In the end, by championing the social good, she raised millions for her health tech start up. Hear Rachel’s health tech startup story, and her advice to other social entrepreneurs interested in putting purpose on par with profit.
